Which one applies

100-hour vs annual inspection on a Cirrus

A 100-hour inspection is required when the aircraft carries people for hire or is used for flight instruction for hire. A privately operated aircraft needs an annual inspection instead.

Both follow the Cirrus maintenance manual's inspection checklist, but an annual must be signed off by an A&P mechanic who holds an Inspection Authorization. The requirements are set out in 14 CFR 91.409.

Scope

What a Cirrus inspection covers

The Cirrus inspection checklist calls for a look at each of these areas:

  • The composite airframe and bonded structure
  • The aluminum flight controls and trim
  • Landing gear and brakes
  • The engine and its fuel injection and ignition systems
  • Avionics and software/database status
  • Review of applicable ADs and Cirrus service bulletins

CAPS

The CAPS parachute system

The CAPS items in the Cirrus inspection checklist are inspected during your annual or 100-hour inspection, alongside the rest of the airframe.

The 10-year parachute repack and rocket motor replacement are separate scheduled events on their own interval, not part of a routine inspection. They are worth planning for early rather than discovering late — ask us how to schedule yours and we will help you sort out the timing.

While it is here

Combine it with avionics or paint

If your panel is on your list, our avionics shop is on the same field.

The same is true if you are thinking about aircraft painting.

Getting here

Flying in from elsewhere in Michigan

Everything you need is on the same field. We have heated hangar space so your aircraft is not sitting outside, and both Jet-A and 100LL fuel for the trip home.

There is a pilot lounge on site if you are waiting or meeting someone for a ride.

FAQ

Cirrus inspection questions

Where can I schedule a 100-hour inspection for my Cirrus in Michigan?

At Michigan Aviation, on the field at Oakland County International Airport (KPTK) in Waterford, Michigan. Our FAA Part 145 repair station inspects Cirrus SR20, SR22 and SR22T aircraft. Request a date through our booking page and tell us your model, generation and serial number so we can confirm the scope.

How long does a Cirrus annual or 100-hour inspection take?

It depends on the aircraft. Condition, the squawks found once panels are open, and parts availability all drive the schedule, so we do not quote a standard turnaround. We give you an aircraft-specific estimate when you schedule, and we keep you updated if what we find changes it.

What does a Cirrus inspection include for the CAPS parachute system?

The CAPS items on the Cirrus inspection checklist are inspected as part of your annual or 100-hour inspection. The 10-year parachute repack and rocket motor replacement are separate scheduled events on their own interval, so plan for them in advance. Ask us and we will help you work out the timing.

Do you work on Cirrus Perspective (Garmin) avionics?

Yes. Michigan Aviation is an authorized Garmin service center, so Cirrus Perspective, Perspective+ and Perspective Touch+ systems are supported by the same shop that handles your inspection. That means avionics squawks found during an inspection can be addressed without sending the aircraft elsewhere.

What should I bring to my Cirrus inspection?

Bring your logbooks, a written squawk list, and recent maintenance tracking reports. We also need access to the records for the airframe, engine and propeller, including any AD compliance and service bulletin history. Having complete records on arrival keeps the inspection moving.
